PERIOPERATIVE ANAPHYLAXIS CLINIC (POAC)

BACKGROUND

Providence Allergy and Immunology Clinic (POAC) was established in 2018 by Dr. Ruiz during his fellowship training. Dr. Ruiz identified a significant gap in care for patients who experienced severe anaphylactic reactions to anesthetic agents, as there was no dedicated pathway for their assessment and management.

POAC is a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to serving patients with allergies related to anesthetics. POAC runs once per month at Vancouver General Hospital. Our expert team includes specialists in Allergy, Anesthesia, and Pharmacy, working collaboratively to provide comprehensive evaluation and care. The clinic is conveniently located at the Preadmission Clinic on the 3rd Floor of the Diamond Centre.

We exclusively accept referrals from medical practitioners, focusing on patients with suspected anaphylactic reactions occurring during surgical procedures.
